Queridos amigos y familiares

Teeth cleaning for adults
Price, definition, ultrasonic dentistry

Everything starts with dental hygiene… Teeth cleaning at the CHD eliminates plaque, tartar, and unsightly stains. We then give you
a personalized treatment plan to help keep your mouth healthy and maintain the results as
long as possible.

First things first

Our dental hygienists are here for you! Tell us about your needs, oral hygiene habits, and preferences during the cleaning: do you want noise-cancelling Bose headphones? Want to keep watching your favourite Netflix series? This is also the perfect time to ask any questions you can think of.

Teeth cleaning at the CHD

Teeth cleaning is an important part of your check-up. Hygienists use several methods
depending on the patient.

We offer two scaling (plaque and tartar removal) techniques:

● Using ultrasound instruments from the Swiss brand EMS, with state-of-the-art “NO-
PAIN” technology
● Manually using high-precision manual curettes (from the Swiss brand Deppeler)

We then polish your teeth using two additional techniques:

● With an air polisher (AIRFLOW from EMS)
● Using pastes of different grit size on the surface of your teeth.

These treatments are all painless, particularly when done regularly.
If your gums are swollen because you haven’t had your teeth cleaned in a while, the
hygienist will adapt to any increased sensitivity with gentleness and empathy. And
make sure you express any preferences regarding the manual curettes or ultrasound
instruments so we can make a note for next time.

The check-up:
During your teeth cleaning appointment, the hygienist will also conduct a complete check-up
that includes two free X-rays. This will allow the hygienist to refer you to your regular dentist
or one of our on-site dentists if you need further care.

Recommendations

By the end of your visit, your teeth will be free of tartar and unsightly stains (tobacco, coffee,
tea, etc.): you’ll leave our clinic with smooth, soft, and shiny teeth. We’ll also give you specific dental hygiene recommendations so you can keep your mouth healthy and prevent
plaque and tartar deposits from returning quickly.

Your next appointment

We’ll book your next appointment (recall) as part of the CHD’s personalized follow-up plan. It’s based on your lifestyle, the quality of your saliva, and other parameters to help you maintain optimal oral health. And we’ll take care of reminding you: let us know if you prefer a text message, letter, or e-mail!

What is a teeth cleaning?

Teeth cleaning is a procedure that eliminates tartar and dental plaque above and below your gums.

We use EMS ultrasound technology and Deppeler manual curettes or cleanings. CHD cleanings are pain-free thanks to a cutting-edge system from leading Swiss manufacturer EMS paired with “NO-PAIN” technology.

We all have tartar, but some of us accumulate it faster than others.

Whether or not you tend toward fast tartar build-up, cleanings are essential for everyone because they eliminate the inflammation caused by tartar as it stagnates and accumulates.

If it’s been a very long time since your last cleaning, you may need two appointments to remove all your tartar and plaque build-up. The initial cleaning will reduce the amount of bacteria and inflammation, while a second cleaning once the swelling in your gums has gone down will remove the tartar under your gums that we couldn’t reach before.

Contrary to popular belief, cleanings virtually never hurt. The only exception is patients who have gone a very long time between cleanings and suffer from gum recession.

In those cases, it’s the hygienist’s job to tailor their technique to be as gentle as possible.

What is teeth polishing?

Polishing removes dental plaque and stains (coffee, tea, tobacco, etc.) from your teeth and restores a smooth, shiny surface.

Polishing also makes it harder for plaque and tartar to accumulate on your teeth.

Cleaning and polishing are always done together: Once all the tartar has been removed from your teeth, it’s important to smooth their surfaces so tartar won’t start sticking again too quickly.

The smoother your teeth, the less dental plaque can stick to them and the less tartar can build up.

We use the Airflow air polisher or the more traditional cup and polishing paste technique to polish your teeth.

The two techniques can be combined, but bear in mind that cup polishing tends to create microscratches on your teeth over the very long term. That’s why we recommend limiting its use and opting for air polishing instead.

When should I get my teeth cleaned and polished?

Hygienists usually recommend a cleaning every 6 months to 1 year depending on your lifestyle, your risk of developing dental issues like cavities and gum disease, your saliva, and your home tooth care habits. For smooth, shiny teeth free of coffee and tobacco stains, you can also come in for a quick polish between cleanings.

Bear in mind that quick polishing doesn’t remove tartar, just plaque.

How much does cleaning and polishing cost?

An adult cleaning at CHD costs 140 CHF, lasts about an hour, and also includes:

  • Polishing with an Airflow air polisher
  • A dental check-up
  • 2 x-rays
  • Oral hygiene recommendations

Cleanings for children under 10 include all the same services and cost just 79 CHF.
