All on 8 : Dental implant solution

Price, procedure, indications

“All on 8” is a method of dental surgery that enables a complete dental prosthesis to be fitted in a single day, using 8 implants strategically placed in the patient’s jaw. This technique is particularly suitable for patients who have no teeth that can be saved, or who are completely edentulous and require total dental restoration.

Before considering dental restoration with All on 8, an initial consultation with your dentist and surgeon is essential. You will need to check your oral health and make sure that the All on 8 solution meets your needs and expectations in terms of comfort, aesthetics and, of course, budget.

What is All on 8?

All on 8″ is one of the most reliable dental implant techniques: it replaces all a patient’s missing teeth with a single prosthesis, fixed and stabilised with 8 implants.

How does All on 8 work?

It’s very simple: as a result of illness (aggravated periodontitis, for example), lack of care for cavities, an accident or major trauma, some patients lose several or even all of their teeth. And the remaining teeth are usually particularly broken-down.

In such a situation, it is necessary to replace all the teeth on the same arch. With All on 8, 8 implants are strategically placed in the patient’s jawbone. An immediate prosthesis containing between 12 and 14 artificial teeth is then fitted onto these implants.

What are the advantages of All on 8?

By opting for an All on 8 implantology treatment, you benefit from a solution that offers numerous advantages because it is:

– Fixed: you keep your prosthesis in place at all times of the day and night and never remove it, just like real natural teeth. The prosthesis is only removed by the dentist during annual maintenance appointments;
– Aesthetic: All on 8 gives you a very natural visual appearance and allows you to regain a beautiful smile;
– Durable: thanks to its implantation on 8 implants, your All on 8 prosthesis offers great stability and strength when chewing. And with good dental hygiene, you’re guaranteed a solution that lasts over time;
– Comfortable: the “feel” of your teeth is exactly the same as that of natural teeth;
– Fast: the procedure is carried out in one day and you leave with a temporary prosthesis that can be used immediately: at no point are you left “without teeth” or with a removable prosthesis.

How much does an All on 8 cost?

To find out the exact price of an All on 8 procedure, consult your dentist, as prices vary according to a number of criteria:
– The cost associated with the complexity of the procedure;
– The cost associated with the quality and design of the implants and prosthesis;
– The dentist and/or clinic you use for the surgery, etc.

After a detailed examination of your oral health and an in-depth analysis of your needs, your dentist will be able to give you a personalised budget estimate. In Switzerland, you should generally expect to pay between CHF 25,000 and 40,000.

What are the disadvantages of All on 8?

All on 8 implants have few major disadvantages, apart from the fact that in the event of a problem with an implant, the dentist will have to remove the entire prosthesis in order to intervene.

The All on 8 solution, like all dental implantology solutions, can also present a few risks, such as causing infection, inflammation or rejection of the implants. But these complications are very rare, especially if you strictly follow the advice of your dentist and hygienist.

What are the alternatives to All on 8?

When you have several teeth to replace, there are several possible options, depending on your situation (and in particular the condition of your mouth), the results you expect (in terms of comfort and aesthetics), your preferences (not remaining edentulous or having recourse to a bone graft, for example) and your budget. Depending on all these factors, your dentist may refer you to:

– Fixed full dentures such as All on 6 or All on 4;
– Fixed partial dentures that are permanently installed, such as dental bridges when enough teeth can still be preserved;
– Removable full dentures (or dentures).

Is the All on 8 solution right for you?

The All on 8 solution is primarily intended for patients who:
– Have lost a large number of their teeth, or even all their teeth;
– Are looking for a fixed solution to restore the aesthetics and chewing comfort of natural teeth;
– Would like a rapid method of replacing their missing teeth;
– Do not wish to go through an edentulous phase with a temporary removable appliance

If you meet these criteria, All on 8 implants may be suitable for you. However, ask your dentist for more information.

How long does the All on 8 procedure take?

The All on 8 procedure takes a full day to complete. In concrete terms, a few hours are needed in the morning to extract the remaining teeth, prepare the bone ridge and fix the 8 implants. The dentist will then take an impression of the implants, which will be sent immediately to the laboratory, which will produce the prosthesis in just a few hours. The dentist can fit and adjust the prosthesis in the afternoon.

What are the stages in the All on 8 procedure?

There are several stages involved in fitting an All on 8:
– An initial assessment of the patient’s condition, needs and expectations;
– Additional examinations (X-rays, measurements, 3D digital impressions, etc.) to enable the procedure to be anticipated;
– The operation on D-day, which enables the implants and temporary prosthesis to be fixed;
– Fitting and adjusting the final prosthesis a few months after the immediate prosthesis has been fitted.

How long do All on 8 implants last?

All on 8 implants have a long lifespan (between 15 and 20 years) and can even last for the patient’s entire life, provided they are well maintained. CHD guarantees All on 8 implants for life, as long as patients follow oral hygiene advice at home and keep their implant maintenance appointments with their hygienist and dentist.

Do I need to adjust my diet after treatment?

As after any dental implant procedure, you will need to pay attention to your diet a few weeks after the operation. Favour liquid and/or soft foods; don’t smoke or drink, to promote healing and avoid infection or inflammation.

After just a few weeks, on the advice of your dentist, you should be able to resume a normal diet.

How do I care for my All on 8 implants?

Maintaining your All on 8 implants is simple, but must be very rigorous if you want to prolong their life as much as possible. Brush regularly, use suitable interdental accessories, eat foods that do not require extreme chewing ability and avoid harmful substances such as tobacco and alcohol.

Can I replace my current dentures with All on 8?

A priori, there are no contraindications to switching from removable dentures to All on 8 implants. You will simply have to start the implant procedure from scratch. Under no circumstances will it be possible to reuse your old prosthesis, as it is not made of a material strong enough to chew on 8 implants…

Ask your dentist for more information.
